Notes: Sarah Bernhardt Plays Fedora

Sarah is shown here in the role of Fedora. She wears her trademark long silk gloves, a trend she started. She was believed to suffer from an eating disorder which left her grossly underweight and wore the gloves to conceal this. One rather insensitive cartoon of her represented her as a skeleton with thick, black, frizzy hair.
